SID: Welcome to my world where is it naturally supernatural, I’m Sid Roth, my guest is Theresa Griffith Hurlbert, when Theresa plays her flute she says the wind of God blows through her and people get supernaturally healed, they get emotionally healed, physically healed, spiritually healed, peace comes upon them, it is the most amazing thing. Now Theresa I happen to believe that a lot of this comes from brokenness, its like there’s no Theresa left anymore, and it is just God that is coming through you. You were raised in a Christian home, you loved God your whole life, how could you have ended up in a marriage that was so abusive for, how many years?
THERESA: A quarter of a century.
SID: And from what I understand here the abuse caused your body to shut down and you were dying; tell me what was going on.
THERESA: Well I’m writing a book about how; especially verbal abuse impairs the immune system. based on you know, words have the power of life and death, it is actually a fact and so the immune system shuts down, all the organs shut down, and you actually self-poison because the organs can’t do their job, and so I was ill for ten years with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and various other complications, and was bedridden three times, a couple of times for three months, and once over five months, and as I was laying on that sick bed I was so weak whispering was difficult, I was so fragile that noise bothered me, and even, you know I needed soothing music but I couldn’t find anything soothing enough, so I determined that when I got well and I knew I would, that I wanted to go into the studio with no music and produce music that brings relief to people’s pain – body, soul, and spirit.
SID: Now why did you put up, I mean this is heavy-duty abuse; no one is called to go through that type of abuse, why did you put up with it so long?
THERESA: Well you know we perish for lack of knowledge, die for lack of knowledge, and culturally and in other ways I was taught that boundaries were not right, that you shouldn’t, you should never say no to your husband, okay, and so I didn’t know any better, I was trained to accept it and I wanted to escape but I didn’t know that I had the right to, and then through receiving counseling and training to be an Elijah House counselor, all of a sudden I heard the word boundaries for the first time and I thought it was a foreign word, I thought why did no one ever tell me this word before, and I was almost in shock because I didn’t realize that it could have been mine for basic survival.
SID: Now when you went through all the trauma of the sickness, the verbal abuse, the other types of abuse, and God reached down and made you whole again, you got a divorce and you became whole again physically something new happened with your music, tell me about it.
THERESA: Well you know I can, because I have suffered so intensely, and my story of suffering doesn’t just end with what we just mentioned, there’s – it is so intense and bazaar that a screenwriter in Hollywood has already written the first act of the movie, so when I play for people I can feel their pain, so when we have concerts that is an interactive concert, I don’t know that anyone else is doing this, it is so rare thing where we have a seat of honor at the front and we invite people to come and sit in the seat of honor and then I show them my array of twelve different flutes and Celtic Lap Harp and I say, “Which instrument would you like to be blessed with?” And they pick the instrument that I have already demonstrated all of them, their heart will leap at a certain instrument, and I will pick up that instrument and begin to play a live song that has never been played before just for them, tailor made for them, and they begin to weep within 20 seconds, then I kneel down and take their hand and an impartation of the love of God comes through as I sing the story of their life that I couldn’t possibly know and they are just sobbing in the seat, and when they get up they look different and many times their body is healed, we have had people healed with back problems, cancer, one lady was in a wheel chair and she got up out of the wheel chair and ran, so amazing things happen when you heal from the inside out.
SID: Well I am going to be the guinea pig, if you will, and Theresa you told me the Holy Spirit wanted you to play this particular flute, I have never see a flute like this before.
THERESA: This is a double pennywhistle, and usually when a person is walking up to get in the seat of honor, I look at them and I know what they are going to pick already just by looking at them, I can tell.
SID: Well I saw all your flutes, and I liked that one, but I didn’t tell you that.
THERESA: Oh good.
SID: I’ll tell you what, she is going to play over me shortly, but people are getting healed from so many different diseases just listening to her music, and wait till you hear what happens when she goes in the studio with no music and just the flute, and God, don’t go away, we’ll be right back after this.
