SID: Hello, Sid Roth here with Marilyn Hickey, and I am so ecstatic over an ancient secret to get God’s hand to move in your life, that used to be popular but very few people talk about it, now Marilyn heard about this from her mother, because her mother demonstrated it. You see Marilyn’s father was so insane, he was going to kill her mother, and because her mother prayed and fasted, there was a total change in his life. Tell me about how your father changed.
MARILYN: Well when he came out of the mental hospital, he wanted to go to church with my mother.
SID: That’s a change, but what about, it sort of ran in your family, your brother then has mental illness, what did your mother do about that?
MARILYN: Well, I think there was a generation curse on my family,
SID: I do too.
MARILYN: On my father’s side, I think there were mental problems with my grandfather, I didn’t know him but I heard that, my great-grandfather would beat his animals, you know, so there was a violence,
SID: It just passed on.
MARILYN: Yeah, and then my brother, I only have one brother, well he had the same thing, his wife divorced him because he was so cruel to her, and my mother began praying and fasting for my brother, well then, when my mother got older, you know, we put her in a place to where she had to have care all the time, her mind was all right, but she had to have physical care, and my brother left town cause he didn’t want to be around her, he didn’t want to see her, and I was so angry with my brother, I would go to see my mother and she would say to me, “How is your brother?” And I would try to be, well I’m sure he’s okay, I haven’t heard anything, he moved to another state, but inside I was just seething, you know he should be here, you know here she is asking.
SID: Was he like your dad?
MARILYN: Oh yeah.
SID: Was he threatening people’s lives?
MARILYN: Oh yeah.
SID: Tell me exactly.
MARILYN: Oh, he even threatened my life one time, to kill me.
SID: Really?
MARILYN: Yes, he was very violent, you know his marriage broke up, he had trouble on jobs because of violence. So here I would go and I would say to my mother, “Well you know no news is good news,” and she would say, “Now Marilyn, don’t be angry with your brother,” she said, “Your brother will come through.” You know she was real strong, well then here my mother is 90 years old and she is dying and they said you know she has a week probably to live, and so they said get hold of any of the family, so we got hold of my brother, my brother drove all night, he was in New Mexico at the time, to get there, and when he got there she was unconscious, but see my mother never believed he wouldn’t be set free, never disbelieved, she always believed, you know, he will be set free, he will be set free, so he comes in, she’s in a coma, he shakes her arm and says, “Mother this is David, this is David, Mother, Mother, I love you, talk to me.” And my mother opened her eyes after two days of unconsciousness and prayed with my brother, and my brother got totally free, and then she died.
SID: My goodness, now, how is your brother today?
MARILYN: He is so wonderful, I called him,
SID: Does he, does he love God?
MARILYN: Oh yes, oh yes, I called him the other day and he said well you know I got up this morning and my hot water heater went out but it’s Sunday, so he said, I just thought, leave it hot water heater alone I’m going to church. And he memorizes scripture, and he will say to me, now Marilyn, how are you doing, are you studying on the scripture, and he will give me a certain scripture he is standing on, oh we have a wonderful relationship.
SID: What have you found over the years, because you have been teaching on prayer and fasting, this is a lifetime message, in fact you told me two things that kind of stuck with me, like oatmeal, you said number one, God doesn’t require long fasts unless He tells you to do it, and number two, you fast seven meals a week, explain that.
MARILYN: Well, my husband would go on extended fasts, and he would go ten days, sometimes twenty-one days, twice he did a forty day fast, you know and I would go three days and think I’m dying, I just can’t even make it at all, and I just
SID: I know the feeling.
MARILYN: I would just feel so terrible, so I began praying about it, I said Lord, I know that Jesus said when you fast, He didn’t say if, He said when, and I am having a real struggle here, and He began to show me what to do, He said you can live a fasted life, and so He said you know if you do seven meals a week, and you can do them however, one meal a day, two meals one day, and that fit with ministry, and I am more sensitive to the Holy Spirit you know, fasting those seven meals, so I’ve done this for years and years, I don’t on vacation.
SID: You know I’ve heard what you were doing, and by the way, don’t make this a formula, this is what God showed Marilyn, you could fast one meal a week, you cold fast, what I’m trying to do is five meals a week, and Marilyn, I don’t know if I can connect it because I’ve been doing this since I started reading your book on prayer and fasting, I’ve been doing five meals and I have been praying, instead of going out to lunch, I stay, I’ll close the door to my office and I just pray, and I have, the last couple of times I have spoken I have seen God move in such an extraordinary, powerful fashion that I have never, between you and me, I was introducing someone that wanted to speak and I heard a name, and I said what is your name, and that was the name that I heard in my spirit, this never happened to me before
MARILYN: Oh, that’s so wonderful
SID: But I attribute the prayer and fasting to that.
MARILYN: You are more sensitive
SID: That’s it.
MARILYN: To the Holy Spirit
SID: It’s like I can’t put my finger on it but something has changed.
MARILYN: Yeah, yeah.
SID: Now with you, the doors that have opened up, unbelievable, how in the world does a Muslim country take an American Christian woman and open their city up to them for evangelistic meetings? How could, it’s outrageous, Marilyn.
MARILYN: I know it is, I know it is, but I know that God has a plan for everyone, everyone who is watching this program, God has such a special plan for you, and when you get in that plan, you know He said to me that night, I have something so wonderful that you cannot imagine, well who would have ever dreamed I would be going to a Muslim country, but God began to open a door.
