Sid: You know in scripture it says to him who has forgiven much, they love much. And I can tell you I love God much because I’ve been forgiven much. But my guest new friend Kevin Basconi he could say the same thing. Kevin you had an addiction problem for something like thirty years with drugs and alcohol I understand and you lost everything.
Kevin: That’s right Sid. I struggled with drug and alcohol addiction for thirty plus years and the Lord God graciously delivered me instantaneously at the moment I prayed to receive Jesus Christ as my Messiah.
Sid: How does someone with a thirty year addiction get set free instantly? The twelve steps wouldn’t even agree with that.
Kevin: That’s true, you know I believe in the one step model and that’s Jesus and you know most of the people who suffer with addiction is based in a spiritual bondage and demonic oppression. And I believe that Jesus has the power to set us free instantaneously; the anointing breaks the yoke and at the moment I prayed to receive Jesus as Savior the yoke was broken upon my life.
Sid: You know I find many people that have had a healing for a specific thing like someone that’s been healed of cancer or anything specific they have faith for other people to be healed. Have you seen many people that have been addicts as serious as you were set free instantly when you’ve prayed for them?
Kevin: Yes Sid, I believe the Lord has given us a grace gift to pray for people to release them from addiction and we have seen it in many nations; in Europe and America, South America. We have testimonies of young men who have been addicted to heroin who have been instantaneously delivered.
Sid: Do you mean that if there is someone listening to us right now, that is addicted to drugs of any kind, alcohol of any kind or even things like pornography or any addiction, if you were to pray right now many of them would be set free?
Kevin: I believed that that’s absolutely true.
Sid: Go for it.
Kevin: Well, Lord today in the Name of Jesus I take authority over ever demonic power of oppression and addiction. I bind it in the Name of Jesus and Lord who the Son sets free is free indeed. I take authority over the spirit of Pharmacia and drug addiction, I bind it and I command it to loose every person whose hearing my voice now be free in the Name of Jesus. For those who are going with pornography, prescription drugs, drug addiction, I feel like the Lord is really speaking to me. There’s someone here, you’re an upstanding member of the community, an elder in your church even and you’re addicted to prescription drugs. The Lord has set you free now in Jesus name. Lord I just loose deliverance in the Name of Jesus.
Sid: Amen. Now, 2001 that was a historic year for you. You had an experience with God; you were immediately set free from thirty-year drug and alcohol addiction, I mean but was this drug sort of like this addiction low level drugs or were you a real addict?
Kevin: I was a real addict, Sid. I’d struggled since the time I was eleven years old with drugs and at the time I was delivered I was hocked on a drug called oxycotin, which is very similar to heroin but actually I would take any type of narcotics so that I could be free from withdrawal systems.
Sid: And did you have much of a church background?
Kevin: Not really, I’m an Italian I was brought up in the Catholic church as a young child but I thank God I had a grandmother who prayed for me and a family who prayed for me and you know their prayers availed much in the end.
Sid: So, you had no reference really, understanding of Christianity and you’re instantly saved, instantly delivered and then here’s the most amazing thing to me anyway. A few days’ later things that happened to people in the Bible started happening to you, like what?
Kevin: Well, Sid someone gave me an old King James Bible and I was desperate because I knew that I didn’t want to return to my lifestyle of drugs and I began to read the Bible and I saw where this man Jesus, fasted and prayed and I said if it’s good enough for Jesus, its good enough for me. So I began to fast and pray and do water fasts and during this time I began to have experiences where a beautiful aroma would enter into the place where I would be reading and fasting. And I would actually put my nose in the binding of that King James Bible because I thought that it was coming from the Bible. I thought that that was just supposed to be normal for Christians.
Sid: But not only were you smelling supernatural aromas, but you started seeing angels; did you see them or feel them or what was happening?
Kevin: I began to have angelic encounters and when it first began, it began as fragrances would manifest as you said, but then shortly I began to feel the tactical, you know I could feel angels placing their hands upon me. And then the Lord accelerated this process and he opened up my spiritual eyes after I had been born again for about six months in the nation of Canada and I actually began to see God’s angels on a regular basis.
Sid: Why did this happen to you so quickly?
Kevin: Sid, I believe it’s because I was so hungry for God, I was so hungry for the real Jesus and you know I was in the church, but honestly I didn’t really see a lot in the church that looked like Jesus and I had had bad experiences with Christians in the past and I just purposed in my heart, if Jesus was real I wanted the real Jesus. I wanted the real Jesus of God and not the Jesus of man, so I really began to ask God fervently, I asked Jesus to reveal Himself to me just like He did that guy Saul.
Sid: But, I mean you have these encounters of going to Heaven, Jesus comes to you, I mean how could you handle this not knowing the word? How could you handle this because you were abnormal compared to American Christianity, very normal compared to the Bible?
Kevin: I thought it was normal Sid, because I saw it in the word of God. I saw where people like John the Revelator and Saul who became Paul had encounters with Christ. I saw where people like Ezekiel, was by the River Chebar and would be taken out into visions of God. And I thought these things were just suppose to be normal everyday happenings in the life of a Christian.
Sid: But, still you were challenged as you read the Bible by some of these promises that were not happening to you. What did you do about that?
Kevin: Well, that’s true Sid, I began to see the promises in God’s word and God said I would be prospered and be in health but yet in the natural I was poor, I was sick, and I was suffering in some ways. I began to call out to God and I saw in Ephesians 3:20 that God would do exceeding abundantly above all that I could think or image so during these times when I would be fasting and praying for seven, eight, ten, twelve, fourteen days at a time I would lay upon my bed and I would image what God could do for me and He began to do those things in my life.
Sid: Now, in 2001 around May you had a vision in which Jesus came to you and you received your calling. Tell me about that.
Kevin: Well, I knew that God had a purpose for my life through the work of the Holy Spirit and I knew what I had done in the past was not God’s plan for me and I was praying and I had a vision of the Lord in my mind, and I had a choice to make, I could either keep praying to the Lord. In this vision He was motioning to me with His Hands indicating that He wanted me to come to Him and so I acquiest, I said yes Lord I’ll come and the moment I did that it felt as if I was on a high speed elevator in an elevator in a building and I felt like I was, my spirit was launched out of my body and I was taken up into the realms of Heaven and I came to rest in the very presence of Jesus. And Sid, let me say that when I came into the presence of Jesus I for the first time in my life felt the Messiah’s unconditional love for me. I’m almost even going to cry thinking about it; His love for me and for the people of the world is; we can’t even put it into language. It’s so unbelievable, His love is so unconditional and the Lord just held me in His arms for a long time and I just wept for a long time and when that was over the Lord put His hands upon my shoulders and He looked into my eyes and He said, Kevin today I’m going to tell you who you are and that was the answer to my prayer Sid, I had been fasting and praying for about three weeks asking Jesus this. And He said I’m calling you to be an artist and an author and an evangelist and I was just overcome by His love and at the same time He took His hand and He made a sweeping motion indicating these four angels that were standing behind Him. And He said, Kevin today I’m assigning these angles to your ministry and poof almost instantly the vision was over and I found myself back in my prayer closet just weeping. And even for weeks after that when it would come into my mind, I would just weep at the goodness of God and His love for all of mankind; every tongue, every tribe, every nation Jesus loves us all.
Sid: Now a few days later Jesus appeared with those four angels that were with Him and what did He tell you about these four angels?
Kevin: The Lord indicated one angel and the angel stepped forward and He said Kevin today I’m assigning this angel to your ministry, which that surprised me because I was a new believer and I didn’t have a ministry and the Lord told me the angel’s name. The Lord told me what this angel’s function or if you will, anointing was. Of course I didn’t know what an anointing was then and the Lord showed me that this angel was to be assigned to me for me to co-labor with this angel to release provision and protection, not only for myself, but for other people.
Sid: And you know what’s kind of interesting you were believing God for a wife, and believing God for a house, and believing God for a just to get out of debt and everything those promises of the word of God started coming true. Am I right?
Kevin: That’s exactly right Sid.
