Sid: We want everyone everywhere to be in their maximum peak health to be able to run for the greatest revival the world has ever seen. And that’s why I have on the live line the author of the bestselling book that was on the bestsellers list “The Maker’s Diet.” He’s a Messianic Jew Jordan Rubin. Dr. Rubin has put a book of some of the best health ingredients imaginable and some of you have been crying to God. You’ve literally been praying. And I believe I’m speaking to people right now that have been praying “I’m confused, God I don’t know what to eat, what not to eat.” One person says this, one person says they have these diet pills over here. I just don’t know I need some help. “The Maker’s Diet” is exactly what the title says; it comes from the Bible. It makes so much sense. I have on the telephone the author Dr. Jordan Rubin. Jordan in your book you deal with things such as digestion and inflammation.
Jordan: Well, I looked at health particularly what we want to accomplish physiologically to live a healthy lifestyle, I found that we are really and as American’s and all over the world are producing certain chemicals in too large of amounts. And that’s making us sick. There’s 3 “I’s” that I have isolated and found that if we can control those. One of them is insulin, we all hear about insulin we produce too much insulin some people produce not enough. What happens is the more insulin that we produce it triggers fat storage; it triggers a reduction in serotonin and it’s a feel good chemical of the brain. And it’s the main reason why people have problems with obesity, problems with blood sugar, and can lead to cancer and heart disease. The second “I” is infection; and this is where the digestive tract is involved. There are good germs and bad germs; we have too many bad germs and not enough good germs and we need to control the level of organisms in the body. And the third “I” is inflammation. Inflammation means heat it’s a good thing because inflammation triggers sending nutrients and certain cells that are important to the body to an area of the body where we have that inflammation. Any inflammatory condition ends with “itis,” gingivitis, bursitis but inflammation can also lead to cancer and it can lead to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease and many other conditions. “The Maker’s Diet” tries to control the three “I’s” and we identified the most important organ in the body to do that is the digestive tract. Because you are not what you eat you’re what you digest.
Sid: Jordan another area of great confusion is vitamins; I know so many people it seems like no matter where I go people are into multilevel and their company is the best. What is your spin on vitamins?
Jordan: I think vitamins are fine, but what’s interesting is that we have tried for years to figure out what makes the food that God created healthy. Twenty years ago there was 12 B vitamins. Today there’s 17, what about when there was only 6? My point is that man will never be able to figure out even as long as we live on this earth what makes food healthy. And if you’re going to use vitamins you can’t take mega-vitamins and expect to be healthy.
Sid: Most people I know are taking megavitamins.
Jordan: Well, let me ask you this megavitamins have been around since the 50’s okay, vitamins in general have. We created them so that we could avoid cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Do you know what’s happened to the rates of cancer, heart disease and stroke since 1950?
Sid: You don’t have to be a mental giant to know.
Jordan: They have increased dramatically, so obviously eating junk food and taking vitamins doesn’t work. One reason why is when you consume a vitamin and a mineral in a typical supplement they’re made in a laboratory; there not grown on a farm or harvested in a field. They’re made in the same place where we make drugs, pharmaceuticals. And also they’re made in amounts that are ridiculous. For example people say “Take 5,000 milligrams of vitamin C.” Who in the world throughout history is able to consume 80 oranges in a day? This is the amount you would need to get that amount of vitamin C. And the vitamin C that you’re getting is only one fraction of what the true vitamin C complex is. I guess all of this is to say that if you’re going to supplement your diet, and I recommend supplements people don’t eat enough nutrients those supplements can be good. If you’re going to supplement your diet you’re probably not going to need as much supplements as you currently take but you need them in a form of food because that’s what God created for us to be healthy. And there are a few companies out there that produce wholefood nutritional supplement.
Sid: And that’s in your book, that wonderful guide that you have in the back to almost anything someone is looking for.
Jordan: Well, as I mentioned yesterday people want to know how to be healthy and they’re being pulled into this direction, the government, their friends. We have tried our best to find the best of the best from food, supplements, skin care, educational resources. It’s all in “The Maker’s Diet” and as we mentioned earlier this week it cost my family $150,000 to find therapies and treatments and supplements that didn’t work. I’m offering you something based upon all my failure and ultimately God’s success in my life that will short cut all that time for you. You don’t have travel around and wander in the wilderness if you will, but “The Maker’s Diet” can help you find what I consider God’s promise-land of health.
Janie: You know the other day you talked about a very delicious breakfast the kind of breakfast you would normally eat; so let’s hear about your delicious lunch.
Jordan: Well, lunch is a great part of the day and when you’re busy work and if you’re going to bring your lunch, which I do recommend. You can have wonderful sandwiches; Sid you talked about eating Ezekiel Bread which is sprouting wholegrain bread. Higher in fiber, protein and digestible nutrients than most other foods period. You also can consume wholegrain sourdough breads which are wonderful.
Sid: What about low carb wraps in restaurants?
Jordan: Low carb wraps are low carb for one of two reasons. One they’re either so thin that they’re by virtue low in carbs and that happens a lot of times. And other times they are made with soy flour and other flour products. But they are typically not healthy for you because they are not made whole. Now there are sprouted tortillas; there are other healthy whole grains.
Sid: Now I’m talking about fast food places.
Jordan: Well, fast food places you’re typically not going to consume any grain product that’s healthy in a fast food place. That is going to change and I know for a fact that there are restaurants that are right now being created and started that have organic ingredients and they are catching on to this health revolution. In the next 5 – 10 years I predict that we are going to be able to get healthy foods as easy as we can get junk foods. But the only way that that is going to happen is if we all stand up and say “You know I’m tired of big food controlling what my kids eat. I’m tired of what happens in the media.” Think about whose influencing them; think about this statistic. You can talk to your children every meal, every day about health. If they watch TV they’re going to get 19 times more messaging about junk food than you can ever teach them about healthy food. Nineteen times by them watching TV verses what you teach your kid. Well, you’re being bombarded and it’s an attack and we’re suffering tremendously. I don’t care what you hear about living longer. It’s not about how long you live, it’s not about adding years to your life, it’s about adding life to your years.
Sid: Okay, I want you to talk to a middle age housewife that’s listening to us right now and she is eating the all American diet. She’s not a glutton but she’s eating the all American diet which she knows what it is, and you know what it is. She’s 35 years old take her 20 years from now; what might be the repercussions?
Jordan: At age 55 this person may or may not have be on harmful medications that we find out years later of course are harmful, they will most likely have advanced aging. When you have blood sugar problems, which you almost always get from this Standard American or STAD diet; wrinkling comes faster. A lot of women now at that age are starting to experience hair loss, of course the libido and other things with your reproductive system go down. A lot of women start to develop polycystic ovary issues, or they’ll have cystic breast disease, or they may have cancer. A lot of woman that age are starting to get cancer and heart disease.
Sid: Can most of these things be bypassed?
Jordan: I believe that almost every health condition we have today at least the top 10 can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle. I don’t care if you lived a poor lifestyle for 20, 30 or even 60 years, every day is a new opportunity to change that. If you got a month to live by following this plan that God provided for us you may be able to live 6 weeks. And you know what it’s not about living forever for none of us are going to we’re all going to die. And a lot of us end up with some health challenges but nothing is beyond improvement if you begin follow this life style.
Sid: Dr. Jordan Rubin I want to thank you so much for being my guest, and Janie DuVall. Janie you are on “The Maker’s Diet” and I’ll tell you what I’m being pushed over the line right now.
Janie: (Laughing)
