Sid: Hello Sid Roth here with something more and why do I say something more? Because we have twice as much time as our television show and so many people right me and say “Sid your show is too short so that’s why we have something more; it’s also a lot more informal and you never know what I’m going to ask or what my guests like Cherie Calbom is going to say. Cherie Calbom known affectionately as the Juice Lady, and we keep talking about her book “The Anti-Inflammation Diet 28 Days to Restore Your Body and Feel Great.” Cherie what are some of the symptoms that would let someone know they have chronic-inflammation?
Cherie: In Chronic-Inflammation is called the silent killer so until some dis-ease in your body pops up you usually don’t know you have it. But if you’re diagnosis with anything you’ve got it anything even migraine headaches to any kind of dis-ease whether it’s heart disease, diabetes, cancer, fibromyalgia, joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma on it would go any kind of disease…
Sid: It’s hard to believe that even joint pain if you get rid of the inflammation you can get rid of the pain.
Cherie: Exactly and you know what it’s pain so often I hear about first off when people get on the anti-inflammation diet they lose the pain. In about a week many people start emailing me and saying “Wow how can this be Cherie how could I be losing this pain the pains subsiding this quickly?” But it does because the diet, and I’ve got recipes meal plans breakfast, lunch and dinner and even if you don’t want to juice you don’t have to, but follow the meal plan and eat the anti-inflammatory foods you’re going to notice a huge difference. I’ve heard from people headaches gone, back pain, joint pain, wrist pain, ankle pain, knee pain, planter fasciitis gone. You name it and I hear from the ….
Sid: You mean I can throw my orthotics out?
Cherie: (Laughing) We don’t know for sure.
Sid: Okay I’m teasing but you know well it’s why you wear orthotics if you have that.
Cherie: Yes.
Sid: But according to my notes you said “Human’s kind of cope with being subnormal because they think it’s normal.” What do you mean by that?
Cherie: Yeah, the first person that said that to me my light bulbs went on and she “I’ve been talking to people at church” and she’s been in my program my weekly program. And she said “I’ve been talking to people at church and they are just accepting things like a headache occasionally, insomnia occasionally, cold or flu that happens a couple of times a year, indigestion and maybe constipation and they call them little things and it’s normal and you just go to the drug store and get something over the counter.” And she said “These people just think that all of this is normal and she said “I got on your program and I don’t have any of that stuff anymore and to me it doesn’t seem normal and I think that they’re settling for suboptimal health.” And I said “You’ve got it they are because you don’t have to suffer from any of that stuff even the things that you think ‘Ah just little stuff and it’s normal and I just have it once in a while,’ you can be free of all of that.”
Sid: Okay I’m going to ask you something that is going to astound those that are watching this show or listening to it and that is, what about people that take cholesterol medicines, they’re having plaque buildup is this the real cause of heart disease?
Cherie: No cholesterol is not the real cause of heart disease the body makes cholesterol it was designed by God as a covering for wounds; if we didn’t have cholesterol we’d cut ourselves and we’d just continue to bleeding until we died. So it is sent to plug up a wound and bring a scab and bring about healing. What is causing the problem at the root, and I found out a well known cardiologist who said this, if you didn’t have inflammation in your arteries creating some kind of a wound you wouldn’t have cholesterol building up there it would just flow on freely through like it was designed to do. But when you have these irritations or wounds in the blood vessels then cholesterol will start doing what it was designed by God to do create a little mound over that and it will build up and build up and that’s what cuts off the blood supply. So it is imperative…
Sid: But wait a second I go to doctors and they say they want me to go on medicine for cholesterol. Did the statistics prove because the doctors are pushing me so hard I’ll be better off if I go on this medicine and I get my cholesterol down with the medicine?
Cherie: You won’t because here’s the deal the Wind Institute did a study and found that about half of the people that died of heart attack heart disease had low cholesterol and it wasn’t high cholesterol it was something else. So the measurements now, if you’re really going to a doctor now that’s really in the know holistic they measure homocystein inflammation levels with C reactive protein is one that’s measured inflammation.
Sid: Well most Christians, most people have never heard of C reactive protein and homocystein I mean these are just names do you recommend people test that?
Cherie: Yes absolutely and find a doctor that will do that because that’s going to give you a truly accurate profile of what’s going on in your body that could be leading you to heart disease which is our #1 killer in America. But getting that inflammation down that will bring your homocystein levels down, it will bring your C reactive protein down, it will bring down interleukin 6 another measurement. And that is your answer, that is your key to just keep manipulating the body with drugs. The body is going to continue making cholesterol because that’s how God designed it to be.
Sid: Okay let me ask you about me I’ll take a personal question about me. I eat out a lot I’m not going to be able to follow this if I eat out or could I?
Cherie: You can and several things; choose lots of vegetables, choose salads, don’t get a cream based dressing for your salad…
Sid: What’s wrong with the cream based dressing they taste good.
Cherie: They taste great and people love it like the blue cheese and the ranch dressings and so forth (Laughing).
Sid: Yeah.
Cherie: But for many people I’m not saying everyone I can’t point to a study on this but for many people eating a lot of dairy and people do eat a lot of dairy. The cheeses and the dressings like that and other dairy products it creates a lot of mucus in the body for many people, I’m not saying everyone, but that can contribute to inflammation. And so get another kind of dressing, an olive oil and lemon juice or vinegar based, or balsamic dressing. Choose broiled fish or baked chicken when you eat out and lots of vegetables and skip the baked potato with the sour cream and butter and things like that. So that’s what you want to do to really help yourself as you eat out. Also soups and stews that are vegetable based are very very good as well. So you can eat out I’ve traveled a lot and had to make it work and even running through the airport which I know you do Sid, I do quite a bit you can still find salads or you can find a restaurant where you can get something that is a more healthy choice. We don’t have to have the burgers and the French fries and the pastas and the pizza and all of those things that we kind of associate with eating out plus the fried foods you know the fried fish and the tempura things and all of the fried things that we can avoid and we can make it work.
Sid: Okay Cherie what would you call the single most important thing to get rid of inflammation in the body, the single most important food item that we should have?
Cherie: Vegetables. If I could get you on everybody listening if I could get you on vegetables at least 7 servings a day that would alkalize your body, we are way too acidic typically. A typical American is way to acid from all of the American foods vegetables are very alkaline going bring down acidity.
Sid: Wait what is wrong with the acidic?
Cherie: Our bodies should be as PH is measured 7.35 to 7.45 is where you should be and we are typically almost everybody that eats the standard American diet is too acidic they’re out of range and that creates all sorts of problems. It contributes to inflammation, it contributes to joint pain and all sorts of dis-ease in the body. Cancer cells like a more acidic environment; they also like sugar. And so all of these things are so important to know to bring our body into balance and vegetables will do that and that’s why I go back to juicing. If you really want to powerhouse of food of alkalinity and nutrients to really energize you and give you that different health. Juicing is going to be a real key but if you can’t do that just really up your vegetables and you can really have them in every form from different salads and raw things and maybe you’ve got a blender and you could do a green smoothie. You can do soups and stews and stir fries and steamed vegetables and lots of salads get those vegetables in your diet.
Sid: Cherie tell me about Lois who watched “It’s Supernatural” the last time that you were on and she had rheumatoid arthritis a lot of people have that what happened to her?
Cherie: She had been bedridden for almost a year could only get up with a walker or be pushed in a wheelchair and she saw your show Sid. And was so encouraged it gave her hope that there might be an answer for her condition. She got on my program on the juicing and she did a short juice fast of about 2½ days and some raw foods to start off with, vegetable foods and finished with a couple of days of raw foods. And this is so miraculous, on about the 4th day into her program she was able to walk without a walker, was able to stand up straight, her daughter-in-law…
Sid: You’re saying…Cherie you’re saying in that short period of time?
Cherie: Yes indeed and she has shared her story now, in fact even Charisma printed it in January issue.
Sid: Anyone, anyone could do that that sounds pretty simple.
Cherie: Yeah.
Sid: Tell me about this 21…tell me about why you designed the 28 day days to restore your body, feel great and get rid of inflammation.
Cherie: As I’ve counseled people, people actually from all over the world have contacted me who are in need of some help physically. I would always say to them because any disease, any illness inflammation is at the core I would say “You need to be on an anti-inflammation diet.” And they’d say “What’s that (Laughing)?” And then where do I start you know we need recipes you know everybody needs recipes when we’re making a change and we’ve got our old ways that we need to toss out and we need to clean our pantry out and now what do we do and how do we shop? So in the 28 day program “The 28 Day Diet” I’ve teamed up with Chef Abby and we’ve got fabulous delicious recipes breakfast, lunch and dinner with shopping lists. Tips on how to prepare your food, how to cut corners in the kitchen to make things easier for you, how to make extra portions for meals and freeze some so on really busy days instead of going to fast food restaurant you’ve got something to pull out and you can have a really good meal. So I’ve got recipes to make it easy for you, delicious, fun. You don’t have to white knuckle it, you don’t have to feel deprived and there’s another thing you can enjoy that vibrant health that God wants you to have. He wants us to be whole, He wants us to healthy, and He doesn’t want to see His children sick.
Sid: Okay this exclusive devotional that ties right in with the 28 day anti-inflammatory diet you say it’ll help you throw off everything that binds you. Why do you say that?
Cherie: So often I have talked with people who are so discouraged they’re in worry and fear and fear can lead to panic even as we know. And they are just trapped and they are in bondage in their souls because of things going wrong in their bodies. And the discouragement that the enemy puts on people I found really needs to be thrown off and so it is vital as you go through this program that you strengthen your spirit, that you strengthen your soul; that God has sent His word to heal us and He sent His word to empower us. And as you feel your spirit and your soul rising up and grabbing on to the scriptures on to His word and you begin to declare those day in and day out you’ll feel stronger to make the right decisions and to say “I’m believing God, I’m trusting God, I’m doing my part and I’m reading His word day by day in the devotional” and “It’s 28 Days to Wholeness” is my devotional and day by day and you’re learning and your growing. And in there I’ve got practical tips day by day things you can do right now. And that’s what everybody wants, “What can I do right now to begin to make a difference in my health in my life?”
Sid: Cherie in about 1 minute tell me why stress is bad for us. What I’ve noticed is when every you go to the doctor no matter what’s wrong they say “It’s stress,” you know.
Cherie: (Laughing) Yes stress is kind of a catch all word today but it does apply it is true. Most of us are so busy we have so many things on our plate we don’t know how to get it all done. We worry about it and it keeps us awake at night. But what is stress? It is that mindset, or that busyness that creates chemical reactions in our body. And so as we are stressed out things are going to go up. Cortisol for one goes up and that deposits for some people…
Sid: I’ll tell you what we’re about ready to take a break will pick up because this is very important. You know a doctor explained to me when he said to me “I had too much stress.” I explained to the doctor I don’t have stress I love what I do” and they said “Well you don’t understand you could have good stress from good things but it’s bad for your body, the body can’t distinguish between good and bad stress.”
