JOHN: And God used all that to begin to take away what had tied her up and bound her.
DONNA: Wow.
JOHN: And she not only became free, but she became a healing agent for many other of her friends in that lifestyle. And they came to faith in Jesus.
DONNA: Woo! That is so, that is so amazing.
JOHN: And that’s what we keep seeing.
DONNA: Yes. Yes.
JOHN: When we see the masterpiece, and we call that out in people, and we connect them to the only One who can restore us, He does.
DONNA: Wow. We’re going to take a quick break. When we come back we’re going to talk to John a little bit more about how we can demonstrate God’s Unshockable Love.
DONNA: Welcome back to Something More. I’m here with John Burke. And we are having quite a discussion about God’s Unshockable Love. John, oh man! That story that you told. What a different scenario that may have been for Amy if, when she came to your church, she had gotten a different reaction from your people.
JOHN: Absolutely.
DONNA: I mean, oh my goodness. And you said that Jesus was unshocked by peoples imperfections.
JOHN: Yeah. Yeah. And I think that’s important to know as you, maybe even someone watching has felt that, like, well, I’m different because of what happened to me. The sexual abuse, or my addictions in the past, or my secret sins that nobody knows. And you hear those voices of, you know, You’ve got to get your act together first or God doesn’t want anything to do with you. That’s a lie. He takes us as is. This is the grace that He offers in Christ is, anybody, no matter what. This is what Jesus showed, that we are acceptable to Him because of what He’s done. And then, as we learn to trust Him and walk with Him, He begins to restore that masterpiece He created us to be.
DONNA: Yes. Yes.
JOHN: He starts to remove the mud in us, and the stain
DONNA: Yes. Yes.
JOHN: And He really does something. We don’t have to try real hard, we have to keep our eyes on Him and follow His Spirit.
DONNA: Yeah. Yeah. Well, what are some things that we as believers, as people that care about other people, and want to see them come to know God, as well, what can we do to demonstrate that Unshockable Love?
JOHN: Yeah. The second, the first half of Unshockable Love is all about Jesus attitude. The second half is all about what He and His followers were doing.
DONNA: Doing. Yeah
JOHN: They were going into the world.
DONNA: .That’s good.
JOHN: They were going into the world relationally engaging with people.
DONNA: Mm.
JOHN: You know, we tell people, Bless your neighbors and your coworkers around you who may seem very far from God. But start off by, just begin praying. Bless stands for – Begin praying. Listen to their stories. Serve – Eat with them. Engage with them.
DONNA: Yeah. Right.
