SID: Hello, Sid Roth here with Mike Shreve. Welcome to my world, where it’s naturally supernatural. There is a way to rescue your children that are behind enemy lines, and many of your children are. It’s a supernatural way, and I love it. I’ve been waiting a long time for something like this. I have Mike Shreve here. Mike, you’ve been a guest before, and for those who missed your show, you came out of being an instructor of yoga at four universities, some 400 hundred students. You had a supernatural encounter with Jesus, and what did you tell your students then?
MIKE: I went back to all of my yoga classes and told them that unknowingly I had misled them, and that Jesus really was the only way. The way my salvation happened was incredible. I won’t go into detail, because our focus is not that, but the Tampa Tribune newspaper did an article about me, and I thought it would increase my class attendance. Instead, it alerted a prayer group locally to pray for me. One of the members of that prayer group happened to be a former yoga student himself, who picked me up hitchhiking about a month later, and led me to the Lord. The way it all fit together is just absolutely miraculous.
SID: Did many of your students then become believers in Jesus?
MIKE: Almost all of my main students became Christians. A month or two ago, I received an email from a young lady who was in the first class where I announced my salvation. She left college and joined a Christian community out in California, and 37 years later emails me and tells me “Thank you for leading me to Jesus.”
SID: Mike, I have to tell you, I am so excited about this book of yours that allows us to rescue our children and grandchildren that are behind enemy lines. It’s called “God’s Promises For Your Children.” I can tell you, personally I read one of these promises for my children and grandchildren every single day, and everyone could and should be doing that. But you didn’t even want to get married! Why did you change your mind?
MIKE: Well, God spoke to me. In the beginning of my walk with God, I received a revelation from God where He told me not to marry. He never told me that was a permanent institution, but He told me to just put that on the shelf. So I made a covenant with God that I would never marry until He told me it was time and told me the person. Now that was around 1971. Well, it was not until 1989 that He actually spoke to me, and by then I was wondering if He’d forgotten our arrangement. But when He spoke to me audibly, He woke me up one morning and He told me
that He had sent me an unspeakable gift. That was His words concerning my wife. She had been my administrative assistant for three years, but I had not thought about marriage, because I thought God wanted me to remain single and devoted to ministry entirely. But He also told me that I would have an attractive son, that I would be married to Elizabeth, who is a wonderful woman of God, and I would have an attractive son. That was it. I went over and explained to her that God had just spoken to me, and she said “Well I’ve known that for ten years. He spoke to me ten years ago.” But she never told me. So we set the date a few weeks later and got married.
SID: But then, when you got married, you couldn’t have any children.
MIKE: Yes, the doctors said that it was impossible for us to have children.
SID: But God spoke to you about a son!
MIKE: Yes, so we held onto that living word promise. See, the Bible talks about warring spiritually with prophecies that are spoken over us. You can take a word that you get from God and fight against all the assaults of doubts and fears that come against your mind. Not only did we have to implement faith in that prophetic word to even have a child, then when he was born, he went through a very traumatic birth that should have left him severely damaged mentally.
SID: You have a friend who has a similar case, where he would be mentally retarded.
MIKE: What happened is he laid in the birth canal for an excessive amount of time. They broke my wife’s water, she had a very lengthy time of delivery. I think it was around 40 hours she was in labor. They broke her water, and then he laid in the birth canal and should have suffered oxygen deprivation, according to them. They were expecting him to be mentally damaged. But quite the contrary, he doesn’t even hardly apply himself and can get straight A’s.
SID: He’s got a photographic memory.
MIKE: I’m jealous.
SID: I want him to rub a little on me. No, I’m just teasing.
MIKE: It’s amazing. I believe the reason that happened is because of what we’ll be talking about.
The revelation God gave me is that there are specific promises in God’s word that He has given us for our seed. There are specifically 65 things that God says He will do for my son, for my daughter because of my walk with Him. One of them is Proverbs 11:21, where it says “Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not go unpunished, but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.” That’s the kind of promise we can claim over this traumatic birth situation.
SID: And this is not a one time occurrence. I can tell you that I take this book, and each one of these promises, I read one per day. I read the scripture, then I read a very anointed understanding of the scripture. You have to understand. It can’t be just words. And then, the prayer is written out, and you can actually put your children’s name in there. What an investment for your children and grandchildren. But then, you had a problem with your daughter!
MIKE: Yes. Absolutely. She had a more challenging situation, because in the sonogram taken of her prior to birth, the doctor showed us significant evidence that she had spina bifida. And, because of problems my wife had in her body, he said she would probably have cretinism too, which is a severe retardation. This particular doctor suggested what he called an alternative, but by the look on his face and the tone of his voice, we knew what he was saying.
SID: You knew what he was talking about. Did you consider that for one second?
MIKE: Not one second, because no matter what condition that child was in, we would receive her as a gift from God, and we would do our best to invest our lives in her life.
