SID: Hello Sid Roth here with Marilyn Hickey. She really doesn’t need an introduction, Marilyn and Sarah, they are all over the world on television, but there is a story here. Marilyn had a mother, Marilyn had a father, the father was in a mental institution, your mother did not give up, what did she do?
MARILYN: Well you know when my father was going downhill, see I would have been about 19 years old at that time, and he just kept getting worse and worse and worse, well she heard a Christian minister on the radio and she went to that church and received Jesus, her Messiah, you know, Savior, and at that time her life was just changed, she became a Spirit filled believer, she was just transformed. So she read you know that some come out by fasting and prayer, that Jesus said, so she began to fast for my father and he had gone in by that time, into a mental hospital, and they said he will never come out, he’s so bad, it’s so long- term, and she said he will come out. And she said the Messiah will bring him out, and within one year my father was out, he received Jesus as his Messiah, as his Savior, and he was water baptized.
SID: You can’t answer this, but if your mother had not relied on this Biblical concept of fasting, which we Jewish people know about fasting, we had Yom Kippur, etc, but if she had not known about this concept of fasting, do you think your father would have ever gotten out of this institution:
MARILYN: No,
SID: How bad off was he?
MARILYN: Oh, he was terrible, he tried to kill her, you know I was there one night,
SID: That’s terrible!
MARILYN: when he tried to kill her, he told her you cannot go to church and I don’t want you going to church and I don’t want you reading the Bible, and she was very strong. She said I’m going to church three times a week, Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, and she said I’m going to read my Bible, and she said because your only help is for me to be strong in the Lord. So one night I came home, it was a Sunday night, and my father was raving and ranting, and he was really full of demons, and he said where is your mother? And I lied, I said I don’t know, he said I know where she is, well I did too, it was a Sunday night, he said she’s in church, I told her if she went to that church I’d kill her. And he was so angry, she comes in the back door and he said where have you been? And she said to church, she was very calm. He said I told you if you went to that church I’d kill you, and she said, and he grabbed a knife and started toward her, and she said calmly put the knife down. And he didn’t, he was running toward her, I’m screaming, I’m crying, I’m carrying on, and he dropped the knife and fell in the floor and stuck to the floor and couldn’t get up. And he said what’s wrong with me? I can’t get up. She said if you ever try to keep me from going to church you will never get up.
SID: My goodness, I see why you are who you are today, I found the secret of your power, it’s your mother who knew how to pray and fast.
MARILYN: Yeah, she did.
SID: But okay, there was a very strategic point in your life, Marilyn, you met the man of your dreams, but this man of your dreams had a problem, the Bible talks about speaking In mysterious languages that the brain doesn’t know, and praying for the sick, and having miracles happen, and this was not in your worldview, so your mother decides to fast, what happened to her daughter?
MARILYN: Well it wasn’t my mother who fasted, actually it was my fiancée, my mother fasted and prayed for my father and he came out of that mental institution, but then I met this man who went to my mother’s church, I didn’t like my mothers church, they raised their hands, they cried, they prayed in a heavenly language.
SID: we Jewish people used to call that “holy rollers.”
MARILYN: Exactly, it was a holy roller church and I didn’t like it, and so when I met him, he was a holy roller and he was a friend of my mothers. And I liked him, but the only place he would take we was out to dinner and to church, so I went to church for social reasons. Well then, we got engaged and when we got engaged, one night he was supposed to come to our house for dinner, he loved my mother’s cooking, and he came later, I won’t be there for dinner. So I said, “Why didn’t you come for dinner?” He said, “Because I’m fasting.” Is said, “Fasting, what are you fasting for?” He said, “You!” I was so insulted.
SID: But wait a second, you know what happens when someone fasts, from your mother’s experience, but go ahead.
MARILYN: That’s right, but I was insulted, I said, “Why are you fasting for me?” You know, I have Jesus, I have the Messiah in my heart, and he said, “But you are not committed.” And he said, “I served the devil with all my heart, now I’m going to serve God with all my heart and I’m not going to marry a woman who is just half there.” I am so insulted, I said, “Do you want your ring back?” I am hoping he will say no, he didn’t say no, he said, “I want you to commit totally your life to the Lord, I want you to commit.” So he is fasting for three days and I can’t sleep, I’m a school teacher, you know I’m teaching Spanish and French, so I can’t sleep at night, the Lord is dealing with me and dealing with me, and the third night the Lord really dealt with me and said, “I have dealt with you for four years to become a Spirit-filled believer, and I am not going to deal with you anymore.” He said, “If you say no now,” He said, “You will never marry Wallace Hickey,” He said, “You will,” and He showed me what I would do, He said, “You will go to California,” He said, “You will get your Masters, you will marry, you will have a happy life, you will die and go to heaven.” But He said, and it’s hard for me to tell this without crying, He said, “I have something so wonderful for you, you cannot believe,” and so at that time I made the commitment that I am going to serve Him with all my heart, I’m going to be spirit-filled if I never marry Wallace Hickey, I totally put everything in His hands. And three nights later I got Spirit-filled. And I never dreamed I would bed doing what I am doing, I mean
SID: You know what I wonder Marilyn, I wonder
MARILYN: Sorry for all this crying.
SID: I mean did you hear she had a choice, everyone has a choice, she had a choice, God said to her, I have something so, I have to say it like her because I like it, I like it Marilyn, I have something so wonderful for you. Wait till you find out how this woman goes into Muslim countries and speaks to hundreds of thousands of Muslims and miracles take place, don’t go away, we’ll be right back after this word.
