Sid: We want every one everywhere to be red hot for the Messiah. That’s what I’ll tell you I took off like a firecracker the moment I got set free from my involvement in the New Age which almost cost me my life.
Even though I had came from a traditional Jewish background, even though no member of my family believed in Jesus, even though it was such an ordeal my family’s reaction to my belief in Jesus I knew the reality of the devil. I don’t understand the back slider I know what’s back there why would anyone want to go back there? I think more people need an experience with the reality with the devil and unfortunately so many people are about to have that. You watch on television the psychic network long enough, you watch on television and movies things like Harry Potter, you watch all of these New Age type things, you watch all of these sexually explicit sex outside of marriage and adultery, and pornography and things like that on television. And it’s sort of like the person who uses a Ouija board you’ll use it for awhile and then after awhile you won’t even need the board because the demonic spirit that was moving you hand will now move inside of you.
Well if more people understood the reality of the devil and how they would burn in hell and suffer for all of eternity with no chance of reversal no one anywhere could be a backslider. But when I came to the Lord I would do anything He would say. I’m reminded of a newspaper reporter that came into my office at the time that I was the Vice President of a financial institution. We sold financial products and this reporter came in and he said “Sid I’m going to do an article and they suggested I interview you.”
Now remember I’m a brand new believer in Jesus and I said “Sure come on in my office.” And the reporter turned out to be Jewish he was one of the major newspapers in Washington, DC where I was living at the time and he started asking me questions. And I said to him “Well I’ll answer these questions.” And the reason I wanted to was because I wanted to lead him to the Lord but I said “Please it would be such a shame to my dad can I tell you things off the record and just for your benefit?” And he said “Of course.” He lied everything I said is off the record he put not only put in the article put it in the article that was on the front page of that newspaper. The headline of the article was “White collar Jesus Freaks” and I was the featured person on the front page of the newspaper. That newspaper sold more additions than any newspaper in their history. And then I get a phone call from my Jewish Uncle and he’s on the other side and he sounded like death warmed over and he said “Sid how could you do this to your father?” And I’ll tell you I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach and I could be light hearted about it now but remember I’m a brand new believer and now my families finds… see they knew I was a believer in Jesus but they didn’t think I was so outspoken as to be on the front page of a major newspaper in Washington, DC. And making a long story short and I want you to read all about this in my testimony book “There Must be Something More.” But making a long story short Kathryn Kuhlman got a hold of this article. Remember Kathryn Kuhlman she had in my opinion the greatest miracle ministry of the century. I mean I used to see her go out on a platform and she looked funny, she talked funny, she acted funny. I mean if I was heaven’s casting director she would be the least likely of anyone that I would cast in that tremendous miracle ministry. But you know God said “He’s going to confound the wisdom of the wise.” And when she got there she had one thing going for her she had such intimacy with God, she knew the Holy Spirit and she knew that she was nothing until the Holy Spirit showed up. And she would know precisely when the Holy Spirit would show up. All of a sudden all over the auditorium people we getting up out of wheelchairs, people were running when they couldn’t walk, blind eyes were opening, tumors were disappearing, she wasn’t even she would lay hands on people after they were healed. She didn’t even lay hands on people it just was a miraculous movement of the word of knowledge and miracles and faith. And because she didn’t need any special faith because when the Holy Spirit Himself shows up with such an outpouring all things are possible. And so she got a hold of that article and they invited Joyce and myself to go out, and by the way God had restored my marriage and given me back my daughter and I mean He restored everything in my life. And we went out to Hollywood, California to do the Kathryn Kuhlman Show. You know at this point I was speaking for Full Gospel Businessmen’s Chapters all over the United States. I was… see back then it was unusual for a Jewish person that believed in Jesus. Especially someone that was outspoken and had an unusual testimony and so before I really read the New Testament, before I’d read the New Testament even coming from a traditional Jewish background we read the Torah and the first five books of the Old Testament a little bit every day in the synagogue but it’s in Hebrew and I didn’t understand it any Hebrew. So I knew nothing but I was God’s gift to humanity and I’m going around telling people that had been in the Lord 50 years how to know God and everything and I’ll tell you it’s an act of God I survived. And you know it says “Don’t put a novelist up front” well I went up front and it’s just God’s mercy that I survived.
So I went out to California to do a television show with Kathryn Kuhlman and my wife Joyce went with me. Now Joyce is another story let me tell you a little bit about Joy. She was raised in a non-Jewish family her parents she went off to church by herself. Somehow she managed to get saved in a Baptist church as a child but when she got to college she was totally unprepared for what she bumped into. What did she bump into? She bumped into atheistic professors that undermined her childlike faith which was not based on any knowledge but just based on you tell a child that Jesus is the Lord and they believe you. But she had had no experience with the living God. She had no nothing to come against these arguments of these atheistic professors had so my Southern Baptist Gentile wife became an agnostic. And then when we got married I insisted that she convert to Orthodox Judism and I remember her saying to me “No you convert to Christianity Judism doesn’t mean that much to you.” You see because I didn’t talk about it she thought it didn’t mean much to me. Because I didn’t like the hypocrisy I saw she thought that it didn’t mean much to me but there was something inside of me that said “I was born a Jew and I’m going to die a Jew and no one is going to take this away from me and I want my children to be Jewish.” And so I insist that she convert to Orthodox Judism boy was that an experience. Anyway I don’t think I’ll go into that particular story right now (Laughing). So you might say that my wife was a Southern Baptist – Agnostic – Orthodox Jew. And then we separated I got involved in New Age had a radical experience with Jesus got set free from the demonic. And now I’m on fire for Jesus and my wife is a non-believer but is dedicated for the marriage to work so she would go and I would go to meetings if they were 8 nights a week I would go to 8 nights a week. I would go around the Beltway in Washington, DC and find a meeting. I mean I could not get enough of Jesus and so we went out to the west coast to do these television shows and all of a sudden Kathryn Kuhlman looks at my wife Joy and says “You do a TV show with me.” And she said “No.” But with 4 other people in this article they called themselves white collar Jesus Freaks of which I was the featured person and the other wives wanted to do a television show with Kathryn Kuhlman but she was kind of forced to because Kathryn said “She wouldn’t do the show unless my wife was in it.” Now remember now my wife is not a believer in Jesus and so Kathryn looks at her and she says you must have prayed a loooong…this is on national TV I might add…you must have prayed a loooong time for your husband to become a believer. And my wife said You know…and by the way even before my wife was a believer she had a great deal of integrity she was an honest person. She had difficulty lying but she swallowed hard and she said “Oh yes I prayed a long time.” (Laughing) you know what’s kind of bringing this to mind? After all of these years I mean we’re talking about 29 years ago I did this television show the Kathryn Kuhlman Foundation just sent to an old copy of this show so I was looking at it and so that’s how all of this became fresh. I remember something else that was kind of fascinating to me when Kathryn did these television shows of which I did 2 shows and then there was one with my wife did I don’t remember the exact number maybe 5 or 6 shows and to me she looked so fresh and to me she was an old woman at that time and I thought “How in the world can she do 5 or 6 half hour shows back to back and look so fresh and be so” and you know what God has such a sense of humor I do the same and even more today. God knew that I would be doing it and I just remember mentally noting to myself “How in the world does she do that it’s got to be supernatural.” And you know what it is supernatural, and “How do I know?” Because I do that and so I’m a grateful, grateful human being and grateful because I tell you I could be dead, insane, in prison, divorced had no relationship with my wife, no relationship with my family and have nothing, but instead I was rescued and that’s the only way I could describe it. I was rescued by the living God I was set free. And I have greater intimacy with the Lord today then I had 30 years ago because if you’re not moving forward in the Kingdom of heaven you’re moving backwards. You can’t tread water your deceived if you’re treading water come to your senses Jesus is returning soon.
