LARRY: Welcome back to Something More. I’m your host, Larry Sparks, and I’m here with Dr. Richard Booker. We [claps] are going to talk about how you can experience the power of Pentecost in your life today. Now, some of you might be thinking one of two things. Maybe it’s like, I don’t know about that; I’ve never experienced God in that way. I. I want to be faithful to the Word. I’m a person of the Word. And I’ve got some good news for you: God wants you to love His Word; but that Word is an invitation, for you to experience the One it reveals. And number two, you might think to yourself, Well yeah, that Holy Spirit thing, I got that, maybe back in 1975, 1983, 1997. I got filled with the Holy Spirit, baptized in the Spirit, spoke in tongues, fell on the floor, and. and. and.
RICHARD: [laughs]
LARRY: And I’m good; I got my badge.
RICHARD: [laughs]
LARRY: God has more! We have this. this show is called Something More; why? There’s not more of God to come out of Heaven, but there’s more of God. more of the Holy Spirit Who lives inside of you. that I believe God wants you to experience! So Dr. Booker, can you tell just. can you. can you teach us a little bit, just about why is the baptism in the Holy Spirit so important? And just like you and I were talking kind of off. off-screen, just tell our viewers why is it so important for them to have a present experience with God, and what that means?
RICHARD: Well God is. well, we’re living today, not yesterday [laughs], so…
LARRY: Yeah; yeah.
RICHARD: so many times people had an encounter with God, and. and they stop and camp there; they’ve never moved on. But I love the title of this program. More; God always has more.
LARRY: Yeah; yeah.
RICHARD: And well something you said about people reading the Word, and loving the Word.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: I’m a Bible Teacher.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: Nobody loves the Word of God more than I do. But it’s something else, as an author myself, to get past reading somebody’s book, and meet the One who wrote it.
LARRY: Well let me.
RICHARD: Well hallelujah! [slaps desk]
LARRY: I want to inter-. I’m going to [slaps desk] interrupt you…
RICHARD: Woo! I’m getting.
LARRY: because…
RICHARD: Ooh, I’m getting [slaps] excited!
LARRY: [laughing] because I remember…
RICHARD: Woo! [slaps desk]
LARRY: reading your books, and reading your testimony; and. and this really I think this might really minister to some people, so I would like you to address the camera; address our audience. Tell folks what happened when you were actually reading the Word, because you had an encounter with God, through the Bible!
RICHARD: Well absolutely! I mean it starts with the Bible; you know, that’s the written Word of God; but here’s the thing.
The. God wants to take His Words off the pages of the Book, and explode them inside…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: …of us, so that they come alive inside of us. That’s the experience I had with God in 1974, and
. and it’s kept me going a long time. But I’ve had many with God since then.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: You don’t live in the past, but you do have a past with God. But you bring that past.
LARRY: Mm.
RICHARD: with the. to the present, and you keep going with Him. But God downloaded the whole Bible into my spirit, and it exploded inside me. And we have in our Bible 66 Books, so for me, it was like 66 spiritual bombs going off…
LARRY: [laughs]
RICHARD: inside me. Now Larry, the thing.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: about it was it wasn’t one bomb, and then you know, they were kind of going off one right after another.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: All went off at the same time.
LARRY: That’s amazing.
RICHARD: And. and those who are viewing, God wants to explode [laughing] His Spirit…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: inside you!
LARRY: Release that Word.
RICHARD: I mean, you know, if you’re tired of [laughing] dragging around, you know; if you need a new energy from God…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: ask the Holy Spirit…
LARRY: Yes.
RICHARD: to come up on you, in His loving, godly, holy way…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: and empower you and fill you with His Spirit, with His presence.
LARRY: Mm.
RICHARD: He always does it in a way that’s consistent with the Word of God, so you don’t have to be afraid…
LARRY: Yes.
RICHARD: of the Holy Spirit. He wants to empower you, to thrust you forward.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: for new and exciting adventures in your walk with God!
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: Amen!
LARRY: Amen.
RICHARD: Just do it! Praise the Lord! [laughs]
LARRY: Yeah. Well it’s interesting; we were just talking about it again. Paul said this;
Paul said, Be filled with the Holy Spirit. And what I’ve known about Greek in studying that, it’s actually an ongoing, continuous filling
. So for the folks who might be watching and think. and think to themselves, Well I got filled with the Holy Spirit, I got baptized in the Spirit, what would you say? How is there always more of God to be experienced?
RICHARD: Well are you filled with the Holy Spirit right this [laughing] second?
LARRY: Yeah!
RICHARD: That’s what I hope!
LARRY: That’s good; yeah.
RICHARD: Well that was a long time ago, or yesterday, or last year, or 10 years ago; but what about right now? So every day, what I would encourage people to do, Larry.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: when you get up in the mornings, say, Holy Spirit, it’s a new day. I’m inviting You to rise up out of my spirit…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: into my soul. Fill.
LARRY: That’s good.
RICHARD: ooh, I’m getting excited. Fill up my soul with the glory cloud of God.
LARRY: Ooh!
RICHARD: and manifest the Presence of God, through my body, so that I can be an instrument of righteousness today on this planet.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: Everyday, renew my mind…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: with the mind of God convict and stabilize my emotions. Empower my will. Liberate me from myself…
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: so that my body can be a weapon.
LARRY: Wow.
RICHARD: of righteousness on this planet!
LARRY: [whacks desk]
RICHARD: Every morning we should be being filled with the Spirit of God!
LARRY: Wow.
RICHARD: Hallelujah!
LARRY: Well even as…
RICHARD: Amen! [laughs]
LARRY: you’re saying that, I feel, I feel led to share with whoever is watching. The Lord. I feel like the Lord [claps] is saying He wants to anoint your soul; He wants to anoint your soul.
RICHARD: That’s good.
LARRY: The Spirit of God lives in your spirit. we could take the whole time to teach on that. but the Spirit lives inside of your spirit, in that deep inner man. But you have a soul. a mind, will, and emotions. I believe the Holy Spirit wants to so saturate your life; that your mind. what you’re thinking about; your will. your desires; and your emotions. what you feel, are actually under the influence of the Holy Spirit. And so many of the people that we admire, so many of the people that we have seen go before us. our heroes, and the pioneers of the faith; even. even in recent years,
people like John G. Lake, or Smith Wigglesworth, or Kathryn Kuhlman; these were ordinary people; trust me. But what they did is they made a decision with their lives to live
under the influence of the Holy Spirit. So much so, it even actually saturated their bodies; soul and body. And that’s the thing; I believe the Spirit of God Who lives inside of you, He wants to rest upon you with power. Is that possible?
RICHARD: Well absolutely! And it’s not only possible; the Bible says
this is for all of. Believers.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: for all time!
LARRY: Yes; yes!
RICHARD: And it’s not something just for some special holy people [laughing] back in the Book of Acts.
LARRY: No.
RICHARD: I mean read the stories
of these Bible people; they [laughing]. they were pretty bad!
LARRY: They were [laughing] pretty bad!
RICHARD: [Laughing] So bad, you know!
LARRY: Well you’re right! It says in the Book of Acts that This promise is for you, [and] your children[‘s children].
RICHARD: Absolutely.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: And even before the Prophet Joel. WhoÆs, you know, pre-dating Acts.
LARRY: Yes.
RICHARD: said the
same thing!
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: I will pour out My Spirit.
LARRY: Yes.
RICHARD: upon all flesh….
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: So God loves us so much, He wants to have a relationship with us, But He’s in Heaven, and we’re down here.
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: So He brings Heaven down here by giving us His Holy Spirit.
LARRY: Wow.
RICHARD: Who brings the life, and power…
LARRY: Mm!
RICHARD: and authority of Jesus on the Throne of God, into our being right here, so that He can live His overcoming life [tapping desk] through us.
LARRY: Yes.
RICHARD: right here. now. today!
LARRY: Yeah.
RICHARD: I’m getting excited, Larry!
LARRY: Ooh, goodness, I feel like.
RICHARD: [Laughing]
LARRY: you just need to know, as we finish up this segment, it’s legal. This. this kind of relationship with God is absolutely legal, it’s absolutely biblical. God actually wants you to walk in this measure of power, under the influence of His Presence. You might think to yourself, This is a little bit different. Is this possible? The reality is, a generation of people. doesn’t matter what your age is. generations actually crying out for something more. And we are doing a biblical disservice; we are doing a disservice to people if we do not tell them you can live saturated by the Holy Spirit. You can have an experiential, dynamic encounter with God. I believe God wants you to have that. Yes He wants you to be in in His Word; but go to that Word, just like Dr. Booker was saying, go to that Word, read the encounters that these Bible, his, these Bible figures of old had with God, and then think to yourself, Wow, these people enjoyed this measure of relationship with God. They were under the Old Covenant; now you have the Spirit of God inside of you. They had God speaking to them, at times and seasons. The Spirit.
of God, the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead, lives in[side of] you, He wants to rest upon you with power. And in the next segment, Dr. Booker and I, we’re just going to actually give this time to the Holy Spirit,
because I believe the Spirit of God wants to speak to you, and wants to draw nearer to you, and He wants to touch you. So don’t [claps] go away.
