CLARICE: And so she sits down and this man jumps up. He says, “Bless God!” Now that sounded irreverent to me. He said, “Let’s kill the old man!”
Audience; [laughter]
CLARICE: At that point, George opens his eyes!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: Knowing he’s the only man up there.
Audience: [laughter]
CLARICE: Recalling the early services when he had already told me this is the bloodiest song service I’ve ever –
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: He said, “Do you think they’re into blood sacrifice?”
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: I said, “These people – we are in the Twilight Zone! We have fallen in!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: I mean, you know dear God, I don’t know if I can I ever get out! I don’t even want the bird anymore!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: If I could just get out of here! Now what the gentleman was saying is let’s be water baptized and identify with the death, burial and resurrection and do away with the old nature and become a partaker of the new nature. But we had never spoken that language! He spoke Christianese!
Audience: [laughter]
CLARICE: There was no interpretation! And the whole bunch, the entire Greek and Hebrew choir, got up and ran outside and left George and I sitting there!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: And you can hear ‘em. I’ll kill you, then you kill me!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: And George says, “Are we supposed to get in the water?” I said, “My God get in the car! Run!” You know, run for it, for goodness sakes!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: [laughs] He says, “Well we can’t go right now.” I said, “Oh yeah? We can go! Get up! Let’s get out of here” And he said, “The priest said he’s coming home with us!”
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: And I said, “I will do severe terrible things to you if you have invited that man!” He says, “I didn’t invite him.’ He said, “God told him to come home with us!” And he and the Baptist preacher are both coming home!
Audience: [laughing]
CLARICE: I have fallen into some terrible cult!
Audience: [laughs]
CLARICE: Say “We’ve never been this way before!
Audience: We’ve never been this way before!
